utley??

we used to have 13 teams in our league till yesterday. the owner that droped out of our league had utley on his team. so now we are a 12 team 5x5 mixed auction league. i am going into the draft with the most money to spend, and actually just started an a expansion team this year. so i have a couple questions.
1: do i spend what it takes to get utley?
2: how much do you think his auction value should be?
like i said i am a new team this year and here are my 8 protectables going into the draft...
konerko- $25
dye- $24
hall- $25
giambi- $19
weeks- $13
dice k- $15
harang- $18
haren- $17
total- $156, our limit is $400 and this leaves me with a wopping $244, 5 dollars more then the next guy, but the drop off from there is about 20-30 dollars to the next team. I think he;ll fetch at least $50 dollars at the auction, i am in position to pay that and still be left with a good amount of $$$ left to fill my roster.. please help, do i sell the farm for utley or let someone else snag him??????

That seems like a lot to put into Utley when you already have Weeks. I'd focus my money on filling holes before I'd go after a player at a position where I already have a legitimate starter. For that kind of money, I think you can get a player with better overall numbers than Utley, assuming that kind of talent makes it's way back into the draft. A lot of Utley's value is tied up in his position.

If you can play Weeks and Utley, it makes more sense. I'm still not sure about $50, even if you have a $400 budget minus your keepers. However, if everyone has less to work with than you, there is a good chance Utley won't get that high. Is he the best player available? Who else will be out there to draft?

Alot of Utley's value put into the position? He bats 3rd in the Phils lineup (not a bad line-up to be in) is only 28 years old. And last years #'s.... 131,32,102,15 with a +300 BA. I think his #'s alone would allow for value! What is that, a top 10 OF? top 3 SS? just below the elite corner men! The #'s stand on their own and his position makes him one of the most prized fantasy baseball commodities.

Did you have a hard time understanding what I said? Yes, a lot of his value is tied to his position. I don't think anyone would be discussing paying $40-$50 for Utley if he was putting up those numbers as an OF.

And why are you quoting last years stats? One of the cardinal rules of auction is never pay for last years stats. There is hard statistical evidence that players who play 150+ games or put 600+ ABs in a season (Dave Lucciani/Baseball Notebook) will see there games played/ABs decline by about 10% on average the next season. Utley's numbers last year were driven by the insane number of ABs he had (658 to be exact). He's a phenomenal player and I would not argue with any taking him late in the first round. But to pay through the nose in an auction expecting a repeat of 2006 is crazy.

Pay through the ASS for Utley. Pay whatever it takes to get him in your draft, then trade him to the commissioner of the league. jk...gl with your draft in the mixed you snake...ha ha

your the guy who summits his protectable then a day later quits the league!!!! your the snake, you should have walked away long before then but i guess you just wanted to make a big exit on your way out!!! Thumbs Down
