Hey, I just drafted in 10 team 5x5 league. Normal cats except OBP instead of AVG. I would really appreciate opinions, and I will gladly reciprocate. It was an interesting draft -- I drafted hitting until round 8 and then took 5 pitchers in a row. It wasn't really planned, but it just felt right. Anyway, here's how it turned out.

C Russell Martin
1B Ryan Howard
2B Jeff Kent
3B Jimmy Rollins
OF Manny Ramirez
OF Nick Markakis
OF Corey Hart
UT Josh Hamilton
UT Pat Burrell
BN Jack Cust

SP John Smoltz
SP Daisuke Matsuzaka
SP Tim Lincecum
RP Joakim Soria
RP Brandon Lyon
P Francisco Liriano
P Pedro Martinez
P Kerry Wood
BN B.J. Ryan (will move to DL when possible, probably for SU guy)
BN Clay Buchholz

Thanks!

nick picks with cust and kent, knowing that theres no avg

i dont think anyone needs to tell you you need to upgrade pitching, but your relievers are solid.

Pray everything works out, which it rarely does

Like your offense. Good blend of upside (Hart, Hamilton, Markakis) with some proven hitters. Burrell, Howard and Cust are all very smart picks in an OBP league.

Your SP are very talented, but also very risky. Smoltz is old and on the DL, but should be back really soon. Liriano - in the minors for a bit, who knows if he can regain any form? But I like both Lincecum and Matsuzaka a lot. I would try to move one of your unproven SP (Liriano, Buchholz, Pedro even) for an underrated one that is less flashy but more reliable (think Vazquez, Harang, Halladay, Hudson, etc). Just to reduce some of your risk. With that said, I'd probably wait for Liriano to return to the bigs to get his value back up.

I'd also maybe try to target a RP in one of those deals. I really like Soria, but Wood is an injury risk and has Marmol in the wings. Lyon is just not very good. But if you can pick up a Broxton, Betancourt, H. Bell MR, and watch for the inevitable new closers popping up on the wire, you should be alright. Closers are overrated in fantasy anyway.

As are most "elite" catchers. I'd try to use Martin in one of those deals - I had him last year so I like him, but I think he is EXTREMELY overvalued right now. I wouldn't count on much more than 10 steals this year as the Dodgers want to keep him fresher this year. And there are probably some good catcher bargains on the wire (Towles, Doumit, Navarro, Snyder, etc...). So if you can find someone to overpay for him, I'd jump on it.

Thanks -- great advice. I might shop Martin to someone who has Posada and is looking to increase steals. Unfortunately he probably isn't in a position to give up a solid starter. I also realized there is quite a large IP limit (1500), which I didn't notice while drafting. I'm kicking myself for not taking Wang -- would have been great in this setup.
