I get Pujols. He gets Upton and Hermida.

12 Team Keeper League H2H
R, HR, RBI, SB, AVG, OPS, W, CG, SV, K, ERA, WHIP

Obviously I'm a little skeptical because of the injury concerns of Pujols.
Upton is a pretty solid player, and could be a good keeper for years.
I just wanted to see if I could get some opinions on this deal.

Here is my team.

Ramón Hernández
Ryan Howard
Kelly Johnson
Rafael Furcal
Aramis Ramirez
B.J. Upton
Grady Sizemore
Eric Byrnes
Andruw Jones
Michael Cuddyer
James Loney
Jeremy Hermida
Lastings Milledge
Brendan Harris

Tim Lincecum
Brandon Webb
Félix Hernández
John Maine
Dustin McGowan
Scott Baker
Tim Wakefield
Shawn Marcum
Rafael Soriano
Carlos Mármol

His Team
Jarrod Saltalamacchia
Albert Pujols
Rickie Weeks
Garrett Atkins
Khalil Greene
Matt Holliday
Hunter Pence
Matt Kemp
Orlando Hudson
Yuniesky Betancourt
Conor Jackson
Evan Longoria
Jay Bruce
Mike Napoli
Melky Cabrera
Josh Beckett
C.C. Sabathia
Francisco Rodríguez
Manny Corpas
Brett Myers
Jeff Francis
Joakim Soria
Zack Greinke
Kevin Slowey

Who do you slide in to replace Upton, after looking at your lineup, Upton is holding down the 3B spot but I do not see anyone else in that lineup to plug in at 3rd. I like getting Pujols for basically just Upton but you already have Howard so I do not know if this ultimately helps if you put some average guy at 3B. Any more details?

Oh wow. Somehow I forgot to add Aramis Ramirez at 3b.
I have Upton at second, with Kelly Johnson at Util.
I could slide Johnson into second, but my worries are losing the SBs from Upton.
If I had known I was going to trade Upton away, I would have drafted differently.

I would not make the deal. Upton is going to have a big year and has a lot more years left. Pujols is going to have to have reconstructive surgury soon, so you don't know how much longer he has.

Plus you already have Howard. You dont need Pujols.

Yeah, you have Loney and Howard already for 1b/CI. I don't think this trade helps you too much. You're losing a possible 30/30 player (Upton) in the near future who also qualifies at 2 positions (2b/of). You're set at 1b/CI, I'd look elsewhere to improve your team.

I think you should do it. Pujols is still one of the best hitters in the game, even last year when his elbow or whatever was hurting. You have Sizemore and Furcal; stolen bases won't be a problem. Yes, Upton could be a good keeper for years but Pujols has already been a good keeper I think that fantasy baseball people in general are overreacting to his injury. Sure maybe he's not being picked in the first 3 picks like last year, but he is still a first-rounder. Hermida was solid last year but he is not one of your starters so losing him is not a good reason to not do the deal. Pujols' injury is the same one that he's had since 03, and his stats have always been among the best, and I expect more of the same from him this year.

i would say no

Kelly Johnson is a huge downgrade from upton, especially when youre talking about keepers and potential and whatnot

as the posts before said, you have howard and loney, who has awesome power potential, and could possibly put up similar numbers to pujols, if pujols misses some time with his elbow

How long can you hold on to a player in your keeper league?

As long as you want.
I can keep 6 every year, no more than 2 at a position.

Value for value, this deal is worth making, in my opinion. Upton is a special guy, no doubt, but special guys also flame out. Pujols is an established fantasy monster. The elbow thing may screw up his production this year, especially if they shut him down if the Cards are out of it early, but over the long run, he'll still be a monster, so this is a great time to buy low on one of the all-time greatest talents.

That said, you're already stacked at 1B. If I were in your position, I would consider dangling Howard to the rest of the league and see what you can get in return. If you can use Howard to shore up an area of weakness and then plug in Pujols, that would be dynamite. Maybe you could spin Howard into Utley or one of the big 3 SS's. That's how I would be thinking. If you can't move Howard, the right course of action becomes a little murkier. Personally, I would probably still buy Pujols at his low value point.

By the way, keep in mind that Pujols is actually YOUNGER than Howard.

Just to update, I took the deal and I got Pujols. Smile

Tico : So you really think I should try to deal Howard? Interesting.
I'll give it some thought.
Who should I target first?

Tried moving Howard, but no one bit at the deal.
Most I could get so far is Carlos Lee.

Tried for Utley, Ramirez, Rollins, and Reyes, no one took the deal. Sad

Let Howard crush 4 bombs in a week and then see what you can do.
