Hey guys,

I am looking to start a league for competitive fantasy players. I am not really sure about the specifics, but I have a few ideas. Nothing too fancy.

Maybe:
Roto 5X5
Draft Type: Undecided (Auction?, Snake?)
Draft Time: Jan or Feb?
21 or 23 Players
9 Batters (Util)
2SP, 2RP, 3P

If interested then please make note in this thread. Also if you have any ideas let me know.

I might be interested, depending upon the set up. I will tell you my preferences:

Draft snake style - I only like Auctions for face to face events.

5x5 scoring, roto or h2h is fine for me.

Weekly roster changes rather than daily.

and I think you should set a minimum IP for pitchers to make sure enough SP are being used.

just my 2 cents.

Setup really doesn't matter to me. Only argument I would have is that I hate weekly changes. Daily lineup changes work best in my opinion especially when injuries or hot streaks occur. The main reason I would like to create this league is to get 12 guys that can carry over from year to year. I hate the one year public leagues because you are lucky if one other guy stays active with you. It wouldn't have to be a keeper or anything. I just want a competitive group of guys that stay active. Maybe the league could even have a page on this site...Who knows.

Well daily lineup changes are ok, but then you definitely need to have IP minimums AND maximums to keep people from streaming pitchers to rack up IP.

If you are looking to keep the same owners together year to year I think Keepers are a good plan. This will keep the discussion going year round with offseason trades.

I would be open to hosting the league if it were made up of 12 owners who are very active on this site. The reason I say this is because we would have to change credit card authorization companies to facilitate this. Our current provide does not allow gambling sites and they consider fantasy leagues to be gambling. So we would only be willing to do that if the membership were very active rotochamps members.

I was thinking to have that basic Roto settings that the Yahoo public leagues have. Also I am not sure if a League would be considered gambling if it is not a pay league. I was thinking of just having a Yahoo league this year, and maybe having a page on RotoChamps that keeps updates or something. Eventually if we have a really competitive league, then possibly have an entry fee and prize.

I prefer Roto over H2H, mostly because in H2H you could be kicking butt the whole year, then you get screwed in the playoffs because the rosters expand and stars sit.

Do you guys participate in any really good leagues? If you have any other preferences please post them.

I play several ESPN leagues. Also trying to put together an Auction Keeper League in Seattle with an in Person Auction.

Already started building the website for it. Just need to find the players.

I will probably also enter one of the high roller competitions like World Championship of Fantasy Baseball or National Fantasy Baseball Championship.

I usually play about 5-7 leagues per year.

I try to play a mix of H2H, ROTO, ML, AL only, NL only, Auction, Draft.

I try to keep it mixed so I can stay on top of all strategies and player situations.

I will have to seek out clarification about the gambling status of non paying leagues.

I also played many ESPN leagues. Think I had ~4 teams in ESPN last year. I also do a few Yahoo leagues to try out new strategies or practice them. Great way to see how your theories work out before dropping money using them.

Like RotoChamp1, I also try to play a mixed bag of styles. Played ROTO for the first time this year and got hammered. I love H2H and typically am the top finisher in my league, though I feel your pain on the late season fades. They usually wreak havoc on my teams during my H2H playoffs as well.

I've found that a mix of leagues, styles, and rules helps one find what best suits him (or in a rare case, her....and even more rare, shim) Razz and discover a base upon which to build successful teams.

Well I can tell you right off that neither rotochamp2 or I have other friends who play. That is one of our biggest frustrations.

I am the same way. Really the only people I know that play are all online. I am going to try and recruit good managers that I know.

Hey Zack, you can count me interested. I'm the same way...I actually got about 9 of my friends to join me in a league last year (which surprised me since I was counting on about 3), and it turned out decent, but I doubt we'll do it next year.

We can hold the draft in the rotochamps chat room.
