Very true, but I'd like to know how they are going have Giambi play 1B all season?

Dontrelle Willis.

The kid was unhittable in the first half of the season then it almost seemed he blew up. Hitters started hitting off him his numbers went down. I'm not saying he won't win some games, but I don't think his numbers will be near as good as last year. By pass him by all means is my strategy.

While I won't dodge him completely, I agree that he won't put up numbers like last year. I expect him to be Selected higher then I am willing to take him in most drafts.

*Bump* With draft season heading into full swing, let's get the talk going again on who not to draft.

A few more guys that I will be dodging come draft day.

Jody Gerut - similar injury to Luis Gonzalez makes him a big risk.

Hideo Nomo - with the Dodgers recently revealing he had surgery on his shoulder, I'm going to let someone else take the chance.

Good call on Gerut and Nomo. Gerut was looking like a good late round pick until that injury was revealed.

Heres another one of mine - Jim Edmonds...

'Jim Edmonds has neither swung a bat nor thrown a ball since having surgery on his throwing shoulder Dec. 4.'

I have a tendency to dodge players who I consider to be older and potentially starting on the downside of their careers. Amongst the guys I've decided not to draft are; Randy Johnson, Kevin Brown, Roger Clemens, Rafael Palmeiro and Jim Edmonds. Their bodies have a habit of not doing what their minds say they should. I've seen injuries kill a teams chances in a league, especially in deep leagues because you aren't able to replace them.

Tim you bring up a great point about the aging players. I've never been a big fan of drafting them either, but there is a fine line where a player is declining or getting better with age. From the guys on your list, here is what I'm doing.

Randy Johnson - if he drops to the 5th round, I'm willing to take a shot at him.

Kevin Brown - Dodging When was the last time he put together a full season?

Roger Clemens - I know he can still mow down lineups, but Minute Maid Park scares me. Unless he drops really far, I'm Dodging

Rafael Palmeiro - Age hasn't hurt him yet, I'd take him if its at the right time.

Jim Edmonds - similar to Kevin Brown, he puts up good numbers, but I can't risk losing a starting OF for most of the season.

Well those are my thoughts, good point Tim!

a few guys on my DO NOT DRAFT LIST

Pudge - 2 words....Detroit Tigers

kaz matsui - i might take a chance on him in the later rounds but i think he'll be more like shinjo than ichiro

vlad - don't get me wrong here, if he's available at the end of the first-beg of 2nd, i'd take him, but i wouldn't put him in my top 5. changing leagues might hurt him and he won't be running as much with all those back problems

arthur Rhodes - he's never been successful as a closer before. he only converted like 17 out of 44 save opps in his career.

andy pettite - i don't know why, but i have a funny feeling he won't last the whole season this year.

Dont count a player out just b/c he plays for DET. The whole AL Central is the worst division in baseball, all of which have not so great pitching staffs. Pudge is still going to be one of the better catchers in baseball. Dmitry Young and Alex Sanchez are 2 other great players for a fantasy team. Sanchez b/c he steals so much and Young b/c he qualifies at 3B.

Detective I agree with most of these...

However I'm in an ALL-HITTING league....Draft is auction style...

Here's Mine...

Larry Walker

Griffey, Jr.

Luis Gonzalez

Jody Gerut

Pudge

Jim Edmonds

Todd Hundley

Aaron Boone (obviously)

Konerko

Vlad-- Bad back scares me and he went for BIG TIME $$$ last year...

Cliff Floyd

Freddy Sanchez

This of course changes if one of them presents themselves late at way under value...then i might take a chance but in my leaugue last year Vlad went for $80 second only to A-Rod.

No THanks.

I would consider Larry Walker a late round steal if anything. Most people would be drawn away from him b/c of his age and injury-proneness.

However, he has lost a lot of weight this year and should definitely be capable of a 90-25-100-.310 season. Dont forget that he plays in Coors field half of the time too. Sure, he will only play 120-140 games, but its still worth a late round pick.

My list is WAY to Long to put up here...I just got thru ranking my players in a yahoo league (love that featue that you can send a copy of the rankings to your other teams) and I have a lot of 1st and 2nd rounders on the do no pick list - this is mainly due to the way I draft - I pick 6 guys in the 1st round and another 6 in the 2nd (believe me, 2 will be there) but, I threw Bonds to the side, Vlad, and a lot of others that you guys may pick in the 1st 2 rounds - this is because the players I pick to choose in the 1st round will be there out of the six and same with the 2nd round. I make sure I pick players that will be there...and I'm betting at least one of those will fall thru to the 3rd or even the 4th round...I draft wierd, but, I can't see ranking players that I am sure I am not going to get...just to make sure I get enuf players, tho, I did 'rank' about 200 players (the last 100 are just there on my like list and not ranked in any order. There is 30 rounds in my draft on Friday and I plan on getting my 30 out of those 200 players...no doubt.
