that was an example ... i don't think it would actually happen (Mench for Williams)

1) he has worn out his welcome as a Cub
2) they want him out
3) you won't need him if you get an OF in return
4) If he isn't going to play (if they get a LF he won't) then his trade value is going nowhere
5) it is a courtesy to the player -- he has potential, if your not going to use it hen let him make use of his talent elsewhere

I agree that Patterson won't ever play well for the Cubs but could ressurect himself somewhere else. I'm just saying having zero trade value is not a reason to trade a guy. And keep in mind they will get nothing in return, hence the term zero trade value, so if they get a LF it will be for somebody else.

i know that ... im saying that patterson is on a 2-2 deal in which the team is essentially getting two guys for the value of one, and adding on Patterson to make it a more solid trade

Send him to Atlanta. He would fit in great right between Jeff Francouer and Laroche. The Braves need an outfielder to play left and could send either Johnson or Langerhans back to the Cubs. I would even be willing to give a AAA pitcher up also to get him.

we know that they intend to offer him a tender before Dec. 20 but I still believe that he will be traded before the season

I guess Patterson would be worth taking a chance. But I wouldn't want to give up anybody good to get him. The thing is even when he is playing well, he still strikes out a ton and doesn't walk.

He's got all the potential in the world but I don't want him in Atlanta. In fantasy baseball, he may be worth a chance, but now your talking Real Life and My Braves. I'd hate to see the Braves waste time on him, but then again, if he couldn't revive his career here, where could he?

I remember a while back I was going to trade Webb for Patterson in one of my keeper leagues.

RC1 and/or RC2 basically told me it was a bad idea. In retrospect, how right they were.

I ignored the advice, but the deal was vetoed. Smile More than half of the league thought I was stealing Patterson from the other guy.

Eventually, I picked up Patterson anyway, and last year I dumped him for Brian Giles. Alls well that ends well, I guess. (now if only Giles had signed with the Jays) Mad
