I've been playing roto for the last 10 years and am considering playing H2H this year---can anyone give me some advantages and disadvantages playing in an H2H league over a roto league??

Thanks---

I like H2H better then Roto. If you dont have the best team in H2H you can still have a chance to win the league if you make the playoffs. Loosing a key player for a month or two will not hurt you as bad in H2H as it would in Roto. likewise you can have the best team in the regular season and still finish sixth if you catch a team that has some players get hot for one week. In H2H you live and dye weekn and weekout.

I don't like H2H because of the playoff system. In roto everything counts and you earn it over the course of the entire season and not by some hot 2-3 week stretch where luck is a bigger factor.

I like both H2H and Roto. There's something fun about going up against another team each week. There is luck in every format, probably more in h2h but you still have to draft well, manage your team well to earn a playoff spot. The playoffs are fun, it's win or go home....how is that not fun?

Like K_Man, I also like both but the thing with H2H that alot of people dont realize is that there is H2H Roto and H2H Points.

Of the two, I prefer H2H Points. Its a much better system of looking at how your individual players are doing rather than lumping everything together in Categories. I find it alot more fun.

I like Roto because you can't get screwed by a lesser team because you win what you've done all year long. I do like H2H points over H2H Roto, I think equates who the better team is depending if you get the right point system in place. H2H is good format for the fact that regardless of whether it be points or roto that I like playing. IIt gives a team that wouldn't win a straight roto a chance of win his or her league as opposed to sneaking into the playoffs with a .500 record, run the table, and win the league. The thing that I don't particularly care for is more often times than not I'll be a #1, #2 seed with the highest points scored in the league and then lose in the first round who I've beat soundly in any previous meeting against them. I just don't do playoffs well whether it be football or baseball. Lost so many championships because of it. It really sucks.

I think H2H is much more exciting because you get to be managerial then in Roto. In roto you just throw your best guys out there sit back and watch. Kind of boring if you ask me. In H2H you get to look at matchups with opposing teams and determine who you want in your lineup. Also, H2H is more like the real game. Do the Yankees always win the World Series when they should, No. Plus theres the excitement of being one the 6 teams to make the playoffs. In Roto you pretty much know whose going to win by August, so most of the other managers dont pay much attention anymore. All in all i think H2H is much more like the real game in that once you get to the playoffs anybody has a chance at a championship, which makes it much more exciting.
H2H just allows for the user to be more involved especially in a competitive league. So if you like making changes to your team on a daily basis H2H is your game, if not stick with roto where you dont have to change your lineups much other than when guys arent playing that day.

My vote is for H2H being better than Roto. But i'm sure all the old school guys have something to say about that. Traditionalists

I'm another guy that likes both. If it's a serious money league I prefer roto because the best team usually wins.

There is something about H2H that is much more thrilling than roto. I love it when a matchup comes down to the Sunday night game. There are more managerial decisions as someone already mentioned.

I prefer Roto, but I usually play in a few H2H leagues each year. As a few have said, the luck factor in the playoffs is the biggest problem with H2H. I've been victimized by it, I've taken advantage of it. I've seen a team with the third lowest point total have the 2nd best record in the league and the team 2nd highest point total finish next to last. You will occasionally get wierd anomalies like that in H2H.

If you draft the best team (or at least a really good one) and make good moves/trades throughout the year, you will win in Roto. Luck won't kill you.

Our H2H league has gone to a 3 game per week schedule . . . so that we play 69 games instead of 23. You still have the issue with 2 start pitchers/getting lucky in the playofs, but knowing that the 4 playoff teams earned it makes luck much easier to swallow.

Getting lucky/unlucky actually adds to the excitement - having the best team and winning every week is zero fun. Having the best team and wondieng if you'll win is much more fun in the long run.

Roto is not nearly as fun as H2H. At the all-star break in Roto, half the teams are dead. In H2H there is hope to make the plaoyffos for more teams . . . and that makes it exciting.

I'm in same league as m3marko and he and I are in agreement; We HATE roto!

To me H2H gives you more opportunity to talk smack. Smile

The 3-game weekly schedule is awesome too. M3 devised one in which we'll play a 3-game series with a particular team covering 3 weeks.

Go with CBS sportsline commish league.

As someone who has already stated they prefer Roto over H2H, I would like to point out one feature of H2H that I do like; daily transactions for matchups and streaming SPs.

Taking advantage of daily matchups can help overcome the luck factor in daily transaction leagues. It can also help to overcome one of your opponent's players having a 5 HR/12 RBI week, or one of his starters throwing a shutout. Streaming does not really make a big deal in Roto, and can actually hurt you based on GP/IP limits. All bad pitching performances are wiped clean in H2H when the new week starts; they will still haunt you in September in Roto (yes Amaury Telemaco, I'm talking about you).

HTH Points hands down. We play in Sandbox.com and have a 4 game M-Thur and 3 game Fri-Sun schedule, so we do not have to deal with a streaming race with our retired and rich guys. Loads of fun and more closely resembles the game.
