For a 12 team 5x5 mixed keeper league, if you needed to choose 1 of the following guys from these pairs for a roster spot which would you choose:

George Sherrill $4 or Troy Percival $7

Daric Barton $4 or Kevin Youkilis $9

Rick Ankiel $7 or Jose Guillen $9

Jason Bartlett $6 or Kazuo Matsui $5

Sherrill will pay off in the long term, so will Barton. I think Ankiel is mentally fragile (wild thing as a pitcher, whiffer as a hitter after steroid allegations last year), so I'll go with Guillen. The last one is tough because I got stung by Matsui when he cam out of Japan and then flopped with the Mets. But Bartlett will hit at the bottom of the order, so Matsui is the better bet.

Sherrill wont be closing long term. So i completely disagree with that. I would go with the closer now over the setup man later.

I dont know about that, the things Ive been reading say good things about him... If he produces as expected why wouldnt he be the long term solution?

Because he's a LH pitcher. Those usually only last as specialty setup men, which is what sherril is. He'll be a decent interim closer, but nothing more. Ray will get that job back, and if Ray still can't handle it when he gets back look for Liz to take it. There are too many other options to leave it to a LH long term.

I kinda like Sherrill too. He might end up losing his job but then he should give ya good numbers everywhere but saves. Percival is old so injuries are a risk don't forget he was retired the year before last, and the Rays bullpen last year was nothing to be proud of. That being said I took both in my cap league, just cause relievers like most years are just so expensive. I agree with Barton although he is in a very young questionable lineup. I think I like Ankiel over Rivera. He is a head case, but he should get all the playing time he wants in the Cards OF. HGH or not he has always be a good hitter even back in the days when he was trying to pitch. Rivera is going to have to fight for ABs in a very good Angels lineup unless Garrett gets hurt again. His best bet is to hope for a trade to another lineup.

Percival, Youk, Guillen, and Matsui. Sherril is a fluke and none of the other people listed will get as many ABs or IP as the others.
