Just took part in an auction draft over the weekend in a 11 team yahoo 6*6 league

Hits,OPS, Runs, RBI, SB and HR
Whip, ERA, K, Holds, Saves and Wins

There were several teams in the auction that just outbid everyone else for closers, some taking 4 or 5 each. Only one I was able to grab was BJ Ryan who wont start till mid april at the earliest. Thats probably why they "let" me get him

Now, I realize as part of the strategy these owners with all the closers is to outright win the Cat and also maybe to hold them hostage. Have other teams over pay for them. Offered one of the teams (one with 5 closers)Ortiz for Putz and Sherrill and was told that he wasnt going to trade them untill the later end of the season which seems to be the way things will work. Other teams are short closers also, one or two only.

Now, I guess my question is, can I hope to win the league with essentially no closers? I think my Starting Pitching s very good as is my Hitting. I also have some decent Holds guys as well

To make matters worse it is a money league lol

It would be hard to determine if you could win while punting saves because it requires you to be superior in a lot of other categories. That being said you dont want to sacrifice your team and overpay for one either.

Hopefully you will be able to be quick on the waiver wire and grab guys like
Tom Gordon or whomever has a shot at filling in for a while. If you can make a reasonable trade for 1 closer then I would recommend it.

How many other teams are in the same situation as you? If there are others all you need to do is be better then those teams and stay middle of the pack.
