that's actually pretty close for me. mostly a need-based thing. abreu if you need some speed, ankiel for pure power.

of course, i find ankiel inherently hilarious and that might be influencing me.

If defense counts in your league its Ankiel hands down. Did you see those two strikes (no pun intended) when he gunned down those to runners at 3B yesterday?

here is my current offense, which is ranked as follows: R9, HR10, RBI8, SB7.5, avg9.

C B Molina
1b D Lee
2b Phillips
3B Encarnacion
SS Hanley
OF Holliday
OF Granderson
OF C Young
Util Burrell
Util Ankiel
BN Konerko, Theriot, C Duncan (will probably drop), Bruce (prospect pick)

My thinking is that between Konerko/Burrell I should get 30HR albeit with a hit to average. Abreu will bump me in SB, preserve my average. I don't necessarily believe that Ankiel will be a .280+ hitter - more like .250s - .260s, in which case he is another Burrell/Konerko type.

ankiel's hard to read because he's like 28 years old or whatever but he hasn't actually been hitting for all of that time, so who knows where he is on the learning curve. that means there's some general potential for larger improvements than you would normally expect. on the other hand who knows. based on those standings, if you need SB more than HR, i'd go ahead and go with abreu.

Ankiel is mentally fragile. Wildness got into his head and pushed him off the mound. After he was accused of steroid use last summer, his bat fell into the toilet. I'd be afraid of what will make him tank next. Abreu is very consistent, when healthy. Go with the proven commodity.
