5x5, 10 man ROTO, redraft

I am in fifth going no where. I have 1st in RBI, 5th in HR and 6th in average.

My pitching is like this....10th in wins, 9th in ERA and 9th in WHIP.

So needless to say, I think I need SP more than hitting but I think my SP will come around.

Deal proposed....My Howard for Johan Santana?

My Team

C- Bengie Molina
C- Chris Snyder
1B- Ryan Howard
2B- Placido Polanco
3B- David Wright
SS- Troy Tulowitzki
OF- Matt Kemp
OF- Carlos Beltran
OF- Jeff Francouer
OF- Corey Hart
OF- Carl Crawford
UT- Chase Headley
UT- Nick Swisher

SP- Erik Bedard
SP- Aaron Harang
SP- Justin Verlander
SP- Mike Mussina
SP- Derek Lowe
SP- Pedro Martinez
RP- Jason Isringhausen
RP- Francisco Rodriguez
RP- Matt Capps

RS- Rafael Furcal
RS- JJ Putz

FA 1B besides Swisher, which I own are LaRoche, Konerko, Delgado.

Your pitching staff is definetely underperforming so I can see the reason to want to make that trade. It seems like a fair deal but I really dont like the huge hole you leave at 1B. Your backups at the position really wouldnt make me feel comfortable, I mean thats a gigantic hit in the power department.

However,

If you see that you really have the ability to jump several points in the pitching categories and not suffer to much of a setback in the offensive categories then I think you have to lean towards accepting.

Its only a 10 team league, I'm sure you could find some pitching help on the wire. Is there no bench in this league?

I dont like that 2nd deal at all
And while I agree there might be some pitching out there on the waiver wire we are talking about Santana who usually buries people in the 2nd half so he is potetntially dealing for the Santana's best stats for the rest of the season.

valid point but again what he needs to look at is by doing the deal does he stand to gain more points in the pitching categories then he would hitting categories if he didnt make the trade. and also, how much would he regress in hitting if he did deal howard away. if he gains 8 points in pitching and loses 3 in hitting then his net gain in points makes it worth doing the deal

I like your chances better with Howard and the starters you have. You REALLY NEED your stud starters to turn in much better second halves. You drafted a very good all around team but your starting pitchers, needless to say, are performing well under expectations which is why your team is middle of the pack.

Trading for Santana does help but if your other starters continue to put up their mediocre numbers and do not turn things around, your team is going nowhere with or without Santana. Good Luck.
