In my 12 team 5x5 mixed keeper league, I am holding onto to 1st place by a decent margin, but am really weak at Catcher.

I have been tempted to dangle Clayton Kershaw $6 for an upgrade and am eyeing either Brian McCann $8 or Joe Mauer $12.

1. Is this a good idea to trade Kershaw?
2. Is this a good return for Kershaw?
(Personally I think McCann would be, but want feedback.)
3. Should I look to keep Kershaw and dangle someone like Felix Hernandez $12 instead?

Thanks for all the insightful tips.

I also may be able deal Kershaw for Robinson Cano $8.

What does everyone think about that?

Ok I will be insightful....trade Kershaw for whatever you can get while he still has 'top prospect' value...either catcher would be a good return.

Kershaw will be a pretty good pitcher. I dont think he will be Felix Hernandez. If you can McCann or Mauer for him, do it immediately. I would be more hesitant to do it for Cano.

Here are my current offers on the table for my Kershaw. Which should I take?

1. Kershaw/LaRoche for Morneau $12 (this owner is ready to make this deal)

2. Kershaw & maybe another player like LaRoche for Brian Roberts $16 (this owner has not confirmed yet)

3. Kershaw & maybe another player for Robinson Cano $8. (this owner has not confirmed yet)

Brian McCann's owner does not want Kershaw and wants at least Felix Hernandez for McCann, which I might be able to swing unless I can use Felix for an even better player.

Input? Thoughts? I am leading the league by 15+ points, but might not have room to keep Kershaw next year since we can only keep 15 and my other pitchers are more reliable.

From Roto Times:

July 9, 2008
Is it too late to make a move on Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano? Cano collected his sixth multi-hit performance in the last nine games with his 2-for-4 effort in Tuesday's win over Scott Kazmir. Cano is batting .348 (15-for-43) in his last 11 games and has raised his batting average from .227 on June 22 to .255.

Our View: Cano hit into his share of bad luck in the first half of the season and it won't be a surprise to see the .303 career hitter return to that level before the end of the 2008 campaign.
July 7, 2008
Robinson Cano is warming with the weather. Since June 22, Cano has raised his average from .227 to .252. The Yankees second baseman has back-to-back .300 seasons so there is little reason to believe that Cano won't continue to progress during the second half.

Our View:Cano remains a buy low candidate.
July 6, 2008
Robinson Cano scored the game-winning run against the Red Sox on Sunday. He was 2-for-4 with a two run triple.

Our View:Cano has raised his average 25 points since June 24th. He is 19-for-48 (.396) since that date. Expect a big second half from Cano. He hit .306 and .342 in the previous two seasons.
July 1, 2008
Robinson Cano went 2-for-4 with an RBI in Tuesday's tough 3-2 loss to the Rangers. The Yankees have now dropped three straight games.

Our View:He has racked up multiple hits in four of his last seven outings, with eight RBI over the span

I'd make the move for Cano.

Could not get Cano or Roberts owners to committ and needed to make a move or lose a player since Felix Hernandez was coming off the DL.

Went with Kershaw/LaRoche for Morneau.

BUT, league commish is calling it a "dump" trade.

Thoughts?

I think its a fair trade if the guy is desperate for possible stud SP. I'd much rather be on the Morneau side, but i dont think this trade is vetoable. Maybe lopsided pending the other teams needs, but not vetoable.

Commishes often get their panties in a bunch when they dont think of making a deal they wish they had, so they try to throw their weight around by making accusations.

The league rules state that the commish can dispute the trade, and them submit it to the owners for a vote on whether or not is should be allowed.

He won't do it for some reason. He vetoed the deal by himself. Made me commish on the CBS website and then questioned my character if I would allow it to go through. He then threatened to quit.

This is so bizarre. He and I have been in this league together since 1997! I am so perplexed.

How long has the guy who traded you Morneau been in the league. If he's been in their as long as you then he obviously knows enough to stay in the league for that long. Tell the complainer he shouldve thought of the trade, and stop complaining because he didnt. Kershaw may end up being a top 10 pitcher. It's not as bad as it first looks. Like i said its not a vetoable trade.

Clearly, it's because your team is so loaded already, you're leading the league by a wide margin and now you're adding ANOTHER stud in Mourneu while giving up worthless fantasy players...at least for 2008...essentially losing absolutley nothing for huge gains.

Just one of the reasons I'm not a big fan of keeper leagues.....too many lopsided trades that make the owners just cringe.

I don't know how the other 11 owners let you assemble a team like that to begin with. I think it's time you move to a more competitive league.

A commissioner should not step in unless the integrity of the league is at stake. The deal is clearly a fair one, as both sides are gaining something. Even though it does favor you, it is not enough to warrant a veto. If your commish is going to act like a child, take your marbles and move on to a better league next year.

I took a vote of the other owners like our constitution states when a trade is in question. The results:
9 approved of the deal
1 disagreed (the commish)
1 no vote due to lack of internet access
1 team is ownerless since their owner quit right before this

After doing so, the commish quit his team and made me commish.

I am mystified over this here.
