Hello, this is my first post as I am new to the board I am in a 10 team, 5X5, 50 min innings head to head league...I am trying to pull off a blockbuster and have been offered this trade...

I would get:

A-Rod
Giambi
Kendall
Joe Nathan

I Would give up:

Helton
Piazza
Tejada
Schmidt

Here is my team:
C Piazza
1B Helton
2B M. Giles
3B Beltre
SS Tejada
OF A. Jones
OF Jose Guillen
OF B. Abreu
Util D. Ortiz
Bn Konerko
DL Dimitri Young

SP Schmidt
SP B. Colon
SP F. Garcia
SP V. Padilla
SP W. Miller
SP G. Meche
SP K Wells
RP Mantai
RP D. Graves
RP Koch

As a side note, this can be a 3 way deal because I have a deal where I would deal Nathan for Godzilla (H. Matsui). BUT I feel that this may be too many Yankees on my team. Plus, I am not sure if i want to give up Schmiddty, but you have to give in order to get? Anyways, thanks for the advice.

I dont think you should do this trade.

In this trade you stand to lose a lot of power numbers. Your AVG will go down a bit (probobly 0.015), you will lose about 15HR and around 50RBI for the totals of those players. Speed is your weakness as Giles and Abreau wont steal enough bases for your whole team total. But in this trade you stand to gain 20SB at most (I would say more around 15). But I dont think an extra 20SB is worth a 0.015 drop in AVG, loss of 15HR, and loss of 50RBI. So on offense you would be losing in that trade.

As for pitching, your staff would still be OK if you lost Schmidt, but I dont think Nathan makes up for that. You should be all set with saves seeing as how Graves is doing outstanding, Mantei isnt injured, and Koch is actually closing games. But who knows, you may end up short on saves by the end of the season. However, you can solve that by picking up temporary closers if you are losing saves.

I just think your losing too much in this trade. Look for a trade where you can improve SB power drastically, maybe try to acquire Beltran, Pierre or Crawford.

This is not a good deal for you. Matt put it as well as it can be said. Don't do it!

I agree with the above comments...

Helton is about a wash with ARod (position eligibility aside)
Piazza is about a wash with Giambi
Tejada is way more valuable then Kendall
Schmidt is more valueable than Nathan, unless you're desperate for saves, which you may be with Mantei and Koch.

I'd consider trying to upgrade at closer. Tejada's power will come as the season gets longer. Remember he's typically a second half player. Dmitri Young should be back soon. Jose Guillen is starting to heat up. Just be patient and don't jump for a trade that's going to hurt you.

And welcome to RotoChamps! Thumbs Up

Keep in mind Mantei lost his closer role.

A lot can get lost on a guy in a blockbuster deal. Getting A-Rod and Giambi are 2 high-profile acquisitions...and some owners get caught up in the hype of these guys. Go back to this guy and ask him what he needs. I would try to scale down the deal. It would be nice to know who he has on his squad.
I agree with the other guys - this is too expensive for you.

Thank you all for your advice. To update you...I too, after crunching a few numbers thought that I was giving up a little much. I countered with Schmidt and Tejada for A-Rod and Smoltz. He declined. I then countered with Tejada and Schmidt for A-Rod and Nathan and he countered with an even bigger blockbuster. Basically the same deal as he had before, except he threw in Damon and wanted me to give him Guillen (who by the way is having a great week and I just picked him up off the FA bin on Sunday). I just told him that basically I don't want to change teams with him (because that is essentialy what we are doing)...anyways thanks for the help. But man, gettting A-Rod is soooo tempting.
