In a 12 team 5x5 mixed keeper league - $260 cap - 14 hitters, 9 pitchers - 8 man bench and unlimited DL spots:

Who would you go after first for a bench spot: Felix Pie $3 or Hunter Pence $3?

pence is more of a sure thing, pie probably has more 5x5 upside. i like them both. pence is likely to be useful for more of this year, so depending on the keeper rules that might increase his value. probably pence, but it's a good question.

FYI -

Our keeper contract rules:
1 year contract = +$3
2 year contract = +$2 in yr 1, +$2.5 in yr 2
3 year contract = +$2 in each year

How about both? Thumbs Up ...or can we all not be that lucky? Confused

I could but that takes up a lot of bench space - I already have Ryan Braun there if he does not make it to Milwaukee to start the year...

If forced to chose I would take Pence.

Take Pence this year, Pie is behind Soriano and needs another year in Iowa. He is only 21, so the Cubbies are going to be extra careful not to make him the next Patterson. He strikes out too much, and has horrible plate discipline (this might be because he is vastly underage at every level hes played at). Although he does have a shit load of talent, as they say, he's your proto-typical 5 tool player.

Pence is probably the better pick for this year, but Pie is a better answer long-term.

I'm not sure Pence is going to make the Astros. It seems like both players are destined to play the season in triple-A. Neither is going to be much of a benefit this season but I like Pie over the long term.
