check out this fucked-up team i just drafted. yahoo 12-team 5x5 winners league (for kicks).

i just want to see what happens, basically.

i named my team "sense & sensibility" and now i'm going to beat them all with a team that has a girly name. you have to have some teams that you don't take so seriously.

Well your pitching is obviously top notch and you should run away with just about every pitching category there is. Your offense however seems iffy to me. It is a very high risk/ high reward offense. So many of your offensive players are either coming off down years or looking for that monster breakout year that you will need a lot to come together in order to maximize their potential. Literally each one of your players on offense comes with some sort of question mark this year - but each of them also have shown that they have tremendous upside. If you can ride the hot hands and get a little lucky then your offense should be good enough to get you the points you need to compete for the title with that awesome pitching that you have. yeah, well, that's because patterson was the only hitter i drafted before round 9. like i said, it' an experiment. this is the opposite of how i usually do my teams - a bunch of offense, with one ace pitcher to anchor the staff, and i figure i can scrounge the rest of the pitchers out of this season's breakouts. trying to see if it can work the other way.

considering u waited 9 rounds to draft hitting, i think u did very well. this team will be better than your prediction based on the "horrorshow" title you gave this thread...

your offense contains guys that are just solid as opposed to superstars, guy you need to win a championship but that you dont think about as having a major impact. Izturis i think will end up being your everday shortstop, but you seem to have a decent amount of power, nothing earth shattering, but youre guys can really run the bases, good luck

yeah, i'm actually sort of childishly pleased with the team, the title is 50% serious and 50% "clockwork orange" reference. i think i can totally win the league if i retool the offense regularly to replace the gambles that don't work out and build around the ones that do. if i'm 12ing every pitching category i don't have to have the world's most staggering offense to carry the day, it just has to compete.

the theory is, if you take enough risks, statistically, _some_ of them have to work out.

and if santana and Schmidt both burn out their tommy johns in the first week of the season, then i'll have that much more time to dedicate to the rest of my teams.

i guess you could also make a team that was evenly balanced between pitching and hitting, but where's the fun in that.

(Izturis is certainly the safer bet at SS, but i'm the world's biggest angel Berroa fan so you have to take that into account.)
