Is seems that the Cubs are actively seeking a left fielder. What I want to know is why not just play Patterson? Do you guys think that they will really non tender someone with that much potential? He seems like their best option to start the year, just give him a month or two and see if he can turn it around. I dont really understand their thinking here.

I agree with you to an extent. I think he's lost his confidence in Chicago at this point. They boo him all the time and he really has no room for error without being reprimanded from the fans. He would be a smart bet to start him instead of finding someone else but it's psychological now.

I'm kinda Kevin Mench or Brad Wilkerson and maybe a minoer leaguer for Corey Patterson and a pitcher (is Jerome Williams still a Cub?)

Corey Patterson has ZERO trade value at this point. Why are you even mentioning his name in any potential trade?

for just that reason
he has ZERO trade value but he has good potential
its been said that his psychological standing with the cubs is shot
they should add him to a deal with a pitcher for a LF ... Arlington would be the perfect place for him to regain his composure -- its a great hitters park where he could play LF, CF, or RF and bat either leadoff, 6, 7, or 9

some team can pick him up cheap and turn his career around
who is a better hitting coach than Rudy Jarimillo (not sure on the spelling) -- no one!!!
he comes to Texas - a hitters park, a great hitting coach, and he becomes the leadoff hitter for a potent offense

Jaramillo is a good coach, but it is hard to compare coaches. As for Patterson, he would be a nice fit in Texas, but his problem from the beginning is that he should bat 6th, but Dusty had him batting leadoff. He has never had the obp of a leadoff man, and he apparently can't take the pressure either.

i realize that was the case in Chicago, but I believe with the hitters park and "batting coach of the year" (i read that somewhere but forgot where it was) Jaramillo could change that ... id expirement during Spring Training with the leadoff and if he has turned it around, start him at leadoff and if he starts to slip, move him to 6 -- the Rangers had a ton of different lineups last year and constantly shuffled the order
however if he does poorly in Spring ball ,move him to 6 right away

Patterson has a lot of potential and Arlington could very well exploit that

I'm all for a Mench for Jerome Williams and Corey Patterson ( even if Texas has to throw in a minor leaguer)

that doesn't make any sense dude. if he has zero trade value you can't trade him for Brad Wilkerson.

Corey Patterson will never be a good Major League leadoff man. He is built to bat 6th. His career on-base-percent is .293. Clearly he is better than that, but I would be surprised if he ever consistently gets above .350.

Corey Patterson certainly has trade value, they get plenty of calls, it's just Chicago still has this mold of Patterson that they idolize him to be and he simply is not, so their price for him is way too high... the best thing for this guy's career would be a move to anywhere, it could be to the worst of teams in the league, it would still help him. Sometimes you wear out your welcome in a city, it happens. The longer the Cubs keep his price sky high, the less they're going to get for him in the long run.

Actually it does make sense -- the Cubs don't get anything in return for him, they just tack him on to a differant deal
In my example it is Mench for Jerome Williams - thats the trade - Patterson is tacked on so the can get rid of him

1) Mench's price tag is incredibly higher than Jerome Williams.

2) Why would you tack on Cory Patterson when his trade value is zero? I believe his value is just about zero and so do you according to your previous posts. Trading a guy with zero trade value means you get nothing in return. If you think he has potential, why would you trade him for nothing?
