I'm in a keeper league that is just starting up and I will have the third pick. I have an idea of who I want to take, but I would like to hear what other people have to say.

assuming 1 & 2 are a. pujols and A-Rod, take your pick of m. teixiera or vlad, i personally might supprise you and go with teixiera but you can't go wrong with either pick

Sorry, 12 teams here are the categories

Hitting=Avg,Runs,HR,RBI,OPS,SB,KO
Pitching= Era,Wins,Losses,Whip.Holds,K's,QS,SV

15 keepers. I imagine Pujols and A-Rod will be gone, but I'm not sure. The league is just starting.

Since its a keeper league i would go with either Teixeira or Miguel Cabrera. Sure they might not be better at Vlad right now but Teixeira is 4 years younger and and Cabrera is 7 years younger. So, essentially you'll get more years out of them and they are both young enough to where they haven't reached the so called "peak" age of 27.

Tex is overrated. No way he should go 3rd. Miggy, then Vlad. Tex hit 30 of his 41 hrs at home. His career ops splits are

home 1.019
road .788

That's not a good road ops at 1b. Yea i know Tex is still in Texas, so that is moot at the moment. However, Sorianos stock dropped leaving Texas, and he hits alot better on road then Tex.

... therefore I'd take Texeira.

Besides being a flat-out stud this year, Tex simply has more long-term upside vs. Vlad.

I would probably pick Tex also even though King Felix came to mind.

Upside? A career .788 road ops. His upside is maybe a .850 ops. Amazing folks prefer a older bad hitting road hitter, over Cabrera.

The fact that he is mediocre on the road is irrelevant considering he plays at home half the time. Last time I checked, road OPS isn't a standard fantasy category. Go with Tex.

That's all well and great till he gets traded, or leaves via free agency. Ask Soriano owners how they feel now? His road stats show his true ability. He's the new version of the 90's Bichette.

i would say both cabrera and teixeira before vlad, but i think i'd take cabrera first.

as far as this tex-on-the-road thing, my first impulse was to say "you can't just say he's a natural .788 OPS masked by a good park - doesn't work that way - everybody hits better at home." i still think that's basically true but when i went out looking for examples, nobody would cooperate. i looked at cabrera, vlad, and berkman - berkman and vlad hit about the same home and road, and cabrera was a lot better on the road. so maybe there's something to it.

but i do think there's some effect where hitters in extreme parks (coors, texas) actually hit worse on the road than they otherwise would.

Even so, I would be shocked if the Rangers let Tex leave. They have plenty of money to spend.

With a name like Texeira... where do you think this young guy is going to play out his career??

Yep, in that Arlington Park Shoebox!!

Look for huge HR and RBI numbers year after year... and for a reeeeal loooong tiiiime piiilllgrim.
