The categories are R, H, 2B, 3B, HR, RBI, SB, BB, AVR, OPS.
I am very high on Hafner and his has started out on fire, but will his value this year match Manny's (Ramirez)?

doubtful, plus I dont like the fact that Hafner takes up the util spot everyday, while manny can cover the of or util spot, just a personal preference though to not have a guy locked into a position that should be open to anyone on the team... hafners production sure will be great, but prob not manny

It's a very valid question, pats24, and a very good one, too. I think we have to weigh park factors as the #1 reason to side with Manny, as he is in one of the best hitting parks in the AL while Hafner resides in one of the two best pitching parks in the American League. Still, though, they're close enough in talent and with their respective team's offense to where I wouldn't be surprised if Hafner actually outearned Manny this year.

Ah, come on guys. Until Manny proves otherwise, he's a top 5 hitter in baseball. Hafner is not there yet, and I don't know if Hafner will ever be in that class. Manny is a hall of famer, Hafner is not quite there yet.

Hafner is very good, but not in the class of Manny.

Actually, Hafner is a top 5 hitter in baseball. His OPS last year was 4th in all of baseball, a good 21 points higher than Manny, who clocked in at 6th overall. And that's before you account for park factors, which pretty much drops Manny further and puts Hafner roughly on par with A-Rod and Pujols. The only thing Hafner has yet to prove is if he can stay healthy for 150+ games, something Manny has done often. As I said, this is a much closer question that it first appears to be to the casual viewer.

hafner, because he comes cheaper and has room for improvement. Manny comes in the top 10 on drafts and his production may slip abit. Though I'd rank Manny higher.

For this year only, Manny would be my choice. Their numbers will be basically the same in AVG, OPS, SB, BB, 3B, and H. Manny will have an advantage in HR and Hafner will have an advantage in 2B (probobly the reverse of each other). Then it comes down to RBI/Runs, and in those catagories Manny has the advantage.

I think they're both very similar. They both can get really hot and crank em out. I don't think the park that Hafner plays in matters too much. When he hits em out he hits em out. Hafner is on the upswing of his career and Manny is on his plateau. I can see them having almost identical fantasy numbers with Manny getting the edge in avg (if that).

Take Hafner. Take Manny. It won't matter much in the end you still got yourself a top hitter.

The park most definitely matters, and we're not just talking about homeruns, of course. Cleveland's park depresses homers, batting average, and runs scored pretty severely overall while Manny's park is one of the best offensive parks in baseball. Hafner has to be downgraded because of this, although at this point, I think he's a bit better hitter than Manny, so it averages out over the course of a season.

the only point to be made about the park is that hafner has put up his numbers in that park. unless the park has changed, that should not influence his numbers and therefore your opinion. this is not Brian Giles going from PIT to SD.

A ball hit 450 feet is a homer in any ballpark Smile
