please, please, please can we stop using ridiculous, unearned nicknames for young players. his name is zack duke, not the duke. and the king, is king james, as in lebron, not king Felix Hernandez. i like duke and hernandez, but can we please not assign them nicknames in their first full season in the majors. i understand everyone is really excited about them, i am too, but lets wait on the nicknames until they prove themselves a little more.

you are way too late. Felix Hernandez was annointed King Felix, not by us here at rotochamps, but by the incredible mariners bloggers as USS Mariner.

He was annointed this title well before he ever appeared in the majors, and the title is already stuck. It is everywhere. It is here to stay.

As for the Zack Duke thing, that is just something for a little group of 5 or so members here at rotochamps who really really want to compete for attention with the Felix lovers.

I dont think the "5 or so members" are trying to compete with any Hernandez people. It's just a joke that has gone wild and is quite funny.

As for the nick name of Duke...The guys name is DUKE...His "nickname" is kinda obvious.

I thought Duke's nickname was "batting practice"....at least according to Jason Repko. I wonder what Albert will call him after this week?.....maybe "batting practice bitch"?? Thats one option.

But its probably best for "The Duke" that he doesnt have to face Pujols this week. Dont want to embarass him anymore than he already has been by the "juggernaut" Dodger-offense.

good catch. i don't understand why zach is the correct way to spell that name, though. it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. and as for the nickname thing, i personally don't think duke is all that good, so i find it pretty funny to give him a nickname. this guy could be a journeyman reliever by the end of his career and people are trying to give him a regal sounding nickname. as for the king felix nickname, it is no wonder the bloggers at USS Mariner started calling him that, they are mariner fans. of course they are excited. when random blogging fans of teams become a reputable news source, let me know. when the guys at sportscenter, baseball tonight, sports illustrated, any national sports or baseball journalist, even fox sports reporters, start using that nickname, then i will be ok with it. before then, it is just wishful thinking, and foolish to use.

Not to burst your bubble or anything, because I kind of agree with you, but SI used his nickname in a three-page article about Felix in the baseball preview a couple weeks ago.

Actually, its not just wishfull thinking on the part of Mariners fans. Talk to our new writer Scot Rudicil (aka Bodhizafa). He did a study of the last 35 years of pitching and found that Felix Hernandez balance of skills at his age is unmatched in that span.

Sure plenty of things can go wrong, and sure he is young, but the skills are sick, totally sick.

Sorry but the worship of King Felix will go on, at least here at rotochamps, and I will gladly have him on every fantasy team I can.

ok ok, clearly this is a lost cause, but frankly i really like hernandez. i have a bigger problem with "the duke." that one really gets me. and by the way, when hernandez has a bad game, i will be referring to him as prince felix because i am an asshole, and don't really like nicknames, no offense to anyone who does.

the duke is his name? that's news to me. that was actually my point in starting this thread. i was just saying i thought it was stupid that many people are saying the duke. now i agree with afthayil, this is worthless and clearly not going to go anywhere. especially with opec's ridiculous three-eyed bull shit that he keeps babbling about.

if a guy's name is Zach Duke, his nickname is going to be the duke. people are just going to call him that, even if he sucks. that's how baseball works. and the point of my three-eyed bullshit is that 'king felix' is a philip k. dick reference.

i don't see the point of getting upset about these things.

besides, you're complaining because king james is the real king, but they started calling lebron james 'king james' when he was still in high school.
