Should I consider dropping Schmidt...

At what point do you give up on a person?

I know that he is a former ace, but has he had some bad luck or has he lost something over the last year or so?

Also, I am desperately in need of some strikeouts and wins. Which of the following pitchers, if any, should I consider?

Doug Davis
Scott Kazmir
Matt Clement
Chris Young
Derek Lowe
Cory Lidle
Jared Washburn
Vincent Padilla
Justin Verlander
Kyle Davies
Joel Pinero

Or should I ride it out with Schmidt? Keep in mind, I have decent ERA and WHIP and I don't want to wreck those numbers.

Couple questions....what kind of league are you in? Are all those pitchers on the waiver wire? If we know that we can give you a better answer.

without knowing about your league, ill make a suggestion. i have schmidt in one of my leagues and he isnt coming around, which i assumed might happen, and his team is mediocre - not great, not bad.

if you want someone who will get you wins and some strikeouts but not really hurt your era and whip, my two best suggestions are chris young and Doug Davis. all of them have their plusses, but you wont really get a quick fix with any of them.

i say hold out another start or two, and if nothing improves by them, get rid of him.

I would go after Kazmir, he will command major strikeouts, 10-15 wins, and although he may have WHIP issues, SHOULD have a sub-4 ERA.

i would drop him cuz the pitchers u listed are pretty good and will help u more

Yes, they are all on the waiver wire. It is a Yahoo League with W, ERA, WHIP, K, and SV.

I have decided to make a waiver move for Doug Davis. Stats the last 2 years indicate that he tends to get off to a slow start. But he has come around to end up with decent overall stats.

As for Schmidt, blame autodraft. I wasn't necessarily targeting him (he let me down last year, too), but I had thought he would have some sort of bounceback year.

I still have Johan Santana and Brandon Webb, so I should be fine eventually.
