I drafted this guy, do you think he will be as good as last yr. I know pitchers, especially young ones....its like there on one yr and off the next. Need some feedback....I could still trade this guy for picks if need be.....thanks

Weaver is legit. He'll go through normal ups and downs and he won't be unbeatable like he was when he first came up but I think he can be counted on as one of the better young pitchers in the game.

I think you have a gem in Weaver, He is one of the best young pitcher coming up and probably will come into his own this year.

So you think he's going to improve on last years 2.56 ERA?

I don't think thats what he meant, i think he just means this year he will prove that it wasn't a one time deal. Its hard to improve on a 2.56 ERA.

He has bicep tendinitis but its not a big deal. It may affect him for the early spring but he will be ready for the season.

He will be a decent numbr 1 or 2 starter. He is not the second coming or anything like that. He will probably settle in somewhere around Peavey level in my mind, which is a great pitcher but not the best in the league. It will probably take a year or two for him to get there though. He will have the growing pains, and needs to be treated properly. the league really did catch up to him the second time around, maybe it is his delivery.

For what it is worth, his reports coming through the minors listed him with a ceiling of a #2 or #3 starter, so I think he overachieved last year and will probably come down to earth this year. Whether he can rebound in year 3 is a whole nother question. I would sell high on Weaver now.

My theory is that young pitchers come in and pitch well in their first trip or two through the league (most are brought up after the AS Break, so they only get one trip through in their first year). The next year, the hitters catch up to them and usually the young pitcher struggles in his second year. The third year is when we find out how good he really is. The guys who will be stars can figure out how to beat the hitters and do so.
With all that said, I wouldn't expect Weaver to have a crappy year. I just wouldn't expect 11-2, 2.56, 1.03.

Peavy hasn't really "settled" yet, but I think I know what you are trying to say
